Major(s)
Criminal Justice and Sociology
Marcus Stubbs ’25, a double major in criminal justice and sociology, is focused on his goal of becoming an environmental lawyer. At Carthage, he’s gained valuable skills as an executive board member for Carthage’s Sociology Club and a team captain for the Mock Trial academic team. With the help of The Aspire Center, Marcus has secured valuable internships that are helping to pave the way for his future career. “The career fairs set up by The Aspire Center have been very helpful,” he says. “Almost every internship I’ve had was from attending one of the career fairs.”
When he’s not focused on academics or career development, Marcus enjoys exploring downtown Kenosha and immersing himself in the local community. “Every time I walk around the area, everyone greets me with a smile. I think Lake Michigan makes everyone happier. So many people are willing to wake up early and see the sunrise as they bike, walk their dog, or lay on the beach.”

Why Carthage?
“I chose Carthage because of the smaller class sizes. It promotes class discussions, allowing us to gain new perspectives from our peers.”
Faculty mentors
“Carthage has amazing faculty and staff, from the professors to the shuttle drivers and everyone else in between. They help me feel at home here on campus. Being able to build a relationship with my professors has granted me multiple opportunities.”

Career goal
“My career goal is to become an environmental lawyer. I always knew that I wanted to become a lawyer, but Carthage has helped me in deciding what area of law I want to study. After graduating, I plan to work for some time to save for law school.”
Favorite spot on campus
“My favorite spot is behind Denhart Hall and the Todd Wehr Center. There’s this bench that overlooks Lake Michigan. You’re able to sit on the rocks too, and it’s very calming.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?
“My 8-year-old self wanted to be an astronaut, so he probably wouldn’t be too thrilled… However, I did own a children’s detective handbook, so he would definitely think my criminal justice major is pretty cool.”
